Norwegian Hiking Tour in Lofoten Islands, Norway

Lofoten Islands.

No tours currently planned.

National Geographic’s ‘one of the most appealing destinations in the world’.

We are delighted to invite you to join us on our 3rd exciting and intimate hiking tour of this beautiful archipelago lying within the polar circle, in the north of Norway.

Voted by National Geographic as one of the most appealing destinations in the world, Lofoten is made up of 100’s of islands, skerries and rocks with six principal islands and a couple of smaller isles to the south.

This trip is an amazing adventure and we know you will find the whole experience thrilling – in one of the most spectacular landscapes in the world.

We will visit magnificent and wildly beautiful places dotted with picturesque traditional fishing villages situated on the edge of still deep blue lakes and fjords. Walk over pristine white sandy beaches that lie at the foot of dramatic mountains, wander through green pastures past vibrant green moss clothed rocks. Trek up hills to sit and take in the awe-inspiring views across the peaks and watch the beautiful sea and golden eagles soar on thermals.

Running this tour again will be our friend/guide Giulio Cuccioli, who speaks fluent English and has conducted many trips to the Lofoten Islands. Giulio will facilitate your explorations and understanding of this beautiful region of the midnight sun. He is an enthusiastic and most capable companion and guide.

It is important to mention at this point that, with the exception of your time in Bodø, all accommodations are fairly simple, rustic and charming. In most cases the bedrooms are shared rooms or sometimes dormitories for 2, 4, or 6 persons and all bathroom facilities are shared too. However, all are clean and perfecty acceptable.

Giulio is the chief cook and bottle-washer too. We provide all breakfasts and evening meals and we find that most guests like to chip in and help with the preparation and washing up – you know who you are! If neither of these chores ‘light your fire’ you can always sit back, relax and join in the conversation and fun that comes with communal activities!
We are sure you will love the uncomplicated magic of your surroundings.

Typically, you will walk between 5-8 miles (8-13 kms) per day. However, due to the “ups and downs” of Lofoten’s rugged paths, it may feel as though you have actually walked rather more on some days!

With so much to look at, this pace suits most people, giving you a chance to be alone with nature from time to time. Giulio will reveal the hidden wildlife and explain the basics of many concepts for you in an interesting and light-hearted way, so that the history, coasts, countryside and landforms, and its wildlife really come alive.

Walks include steep ascents and descents and along high cliff tops in some places, with very steep sections in a few places. So If you have painful knees or suffer from vertigo, do consider your suitability for such a walking holiday.

Lofoten has a sub polar oceanic climate and has the largest positive temperature anomaly in the world, relative to latitude. This is a result of the Gulf Stream and it’s extensions – the North Atlantic Current and the Norwegian Current.

July and August are the warmest months, with an average daytime temperature from 12 – 20°C (54 – 68°F). Mind you, over the past 2 years, we have experienced temps in the mid to high 20’s sometimes and had to swim several times to cool off!

Nights are somewhat cooler, at around 5.5 -11 °C (42 – 52 °F).

Expect rain, storm clouds, wind, clear skies and lots of sunshine – all in the same day!

Our meals are a fabulous social highlight of the trip and we bring you a wonderful mix of Italian gastronomy and local Nordic dishes!

Early booking is recommended as we do have limited capacity for this tour. Max group size will be 12 persons, plus Giulio.
