About Adventureline

Adventureline "spearheaded" walking tours in Cornwall over 23 years ago. We called ourselves "Adventureline" because our walks, although always relatively easy, do nevertheless combine an opportunity for occasional adventure. Whichever holday you choose, we’ve been careful to design our holidays in such a way as to enable you to have an enjoyable walking holiday in and around our destinations - whilst at the same time, learn something more than you might have expected, about the local nature, history, people and culture.

MartinIn 1987, Martin Hunt established Adventureline - initially in response to many requests by his personal friends to share his knowledge and love of Cornwall "off the beaten track" - for they had recognised that Martin had an uncanny ability to find those elusive places and wildlife which most people miss and interpret what they saw. They therefore recognized that Martin not only looked, but saw things "in depth" - enabling a more thorough appreciation of these places. And so Adventureline was born!

Having grown up on the edge of the vast granite moorlands of DARTMOOR in Devon, Martin was endowed with a love of all things natural by his parents, Harry and Cathie Hunt (now 90!) - themselves ardent observers of the natural world. "Sitting on the shoulders" of his parents' knowledge and love of nature, Martin further developed his interests and concerns within the environmental field, by taking the time to learn as much as he could about Cornwall and Devon's natural history, culture and traditions. This involved studying not only the flora and fauna of England's Westcountry, but also investigating the geology of the region, its history of tin and copper mining, its great wealth of Archaeology - and also recognising that myths and legends abound in this region - such as "King Arthur and The Knights of The Round Table", "The Lost Land of Lyoness", (Cornwall's own Atlantis) and of course the old traditions of  "Smuggling" and "Wrecking".

Over the last twenty three years, Martin has been involved with several environmental protection and conservation projects, such as "SURFERS AGAINST SEWAGE" and the Cornwall Wildlife Trust's "Regionally Important Geological Sites Conservation Group" (RIGS) and "SEAL GROUP". (See our links page). These organisations seek to cleanse the environment, preserve natural habitats and to save unique sites from destruction, so that they may be appreciated by all and used for educational and leisure activities. His aim has always been to enable as many people as possible to appreciate, love and protect the one and only home we all inhabit. His balanced perception of "Life on Earth" has given him a kind of mission - for he realises just how delicate is the dividing line between survival and extinction.

Maybe it is because of his holistic approach, but since 1987, Adventureline's walking and exploration holidays have proved popular with adventurers of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds. Informally, yet with skill and humour, the complex relationships of Cornwall's landscapes and people, flora and fauna are revealed by Martin and his friends and colleagues. The result is a unique holiday experience, amongst excellent company, refreshing both body and mind.

Featured on British, American and German television, radio travel programmes and in newspapers and magazines in many countries, Adventureline is regularly and highly acclaimed by travel writers and holidaymakers alike.

Martin has always found that the best place to learn about the world we live in, is "out there, scrambling about amongst it all". He believes that "having fun" and being "in awe" of the natural world is of primary importance in finding fulfilment in natural history - something he does passionately feel is vital to our "mental well-being" in this 21st century technological (and increasingly cyberspace) world which we inhabit. Adventureline's stimulating holidays offer an ideal opportunity to relax and unwind from the stresses of modern living - and with a good choice of complimentary Cornish accommodation (with great cuisine), their hiking tours are thoroughly enjoyable and surprisingly good value for money.

Since 1996, Martin has also run many walking and hiking tours in other parts of Britain and abroad (see both the UK and International Holidays menus).
